🐶 Consider this your backstage pass to shelter life. Staff from the Jersey Shore Animal Center will explain how pets are cared for—and introduce visitors to one adoptable dog—Wednesday, Sept. 2, from 11:15 a.m.–12:15 p.m. at the Brick Branch. Potential allergens may be present.

🀄 Beginners can deal themselves in. New and experienced Mahjongg players are welcome Wednesday, Sept. 2, from noon–4 p.m. at the Waretown Branch.

🀄 Always wanted to learn Mahjongg? Here’s your opening hand. A beginner series starts Wednesday, Sept. 2, from 1–4 p.m. at the Berkeley Branch and continues through Oct. 14. Participants must attend every session.

☕ Coffee, coloring and no pressure to stay inside the lines. Adults can unwind with soothing music, coloring supplies and light refreshments Wednesday, Sept. 2, from 6:30–8 p.m. at the Brick Branch. Materials are provided, or bring your own. Alert staff to any food allergies.

💜 A little understanding can make a big difference. The Shore Memory Café welcomes people experiencing early cognitive decline or early-stage memory loss and their care partners Thursday, Sept. 3, from 10–11 a.m. at the Manchester Branch. The relaxed gathering offers conversation, connection and support.

🤝 Caregivers need care, too. A support group presented with Hackensack Meridian Health will offer practical help for balancing caregiving responsibilities Thursday, Sept. 3, from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. at the Barnegat Branch. New participants are welcome.

🌿 Your windowsill is about to get an upgrade. Vellus from Sweet Bayou Lou will provide everything needed to start a thriving herb plant Thursday, Sept. 3, from 6:30–8 p.m. at the Little Egg Harbor Branch. The workshop is sponsored by the Friends of the Little Egg Harbor Branch.

🐦 Birds have plenty to say—if you know how to watch. Greg Prelich will use short video clips to explore bird behavior and explain how those clues can help with identification Thursday, Sept. 3, from 7–8 p.m. at the Barnegat Branch. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for mingling.

🚨 Scammers keep changing the script. Here’s how to stay one step ahead. The AARP Fraud Watch Network will cover current fraud trends, identity theft warning signs and practical ways to protect yourself and your family Friday, Sept. 4, from 2–3 p.m. at the Waretown Branch. A question-and-answer session follows.

🧶 Bring a project and stitch awhile. Knitters, crocheters, sewers and embroiderers of every skill level can share conversation and helpful tips Tuesday, Sept. 8, from 9:30–11:30 a.m. at the Lacey Branch.

🦴 Arthritis doesn’t get to call all the shots. A Community Outreach Educator from the Arthritis Foundation will explain different types of arthritis, diagnosis, treatment, management and available support Tuesday, Sept. 8, from 2:30–3:30 p.m. at the Brick Branch.

🏛️ Got a question for the mayor? Skip the middleman. Lacey Mayor Steven Kennis will meet residents and answer questions in an informal setting Tuesday, Sept. 8, from 6–7 p.m. at the Lacey Branch.

📦 You can’t take it with you—so maybe it’s time to clear a shelf. An AARP education specialist will share practical strategies for downsizing, organizing and creating a more manageable home Wednesday, Sept. 9, from 11 a.m.–noon at the Manchester Branch. This is a lecture-only program.

🍝 This library meeting comes with an optional side of lunch. The Friends of the Beachwood Branch will gather Wednesday, Sept. 9, from 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m. at Casertano’s Cucina, 335 Atlantic City Blvd., Beachwood. Everyone is welcome; lunch is optional and costs are the attendee’s responsibility. Call 732-244-4573 with questions.

🪴 Before you give up on that droopy houseplant, call in the experts. Bring your struggling greenery to the Houseplant Hospital Wednesday, Sept. 9, from 1–3 p.m. at the Brick Branch. A Master Gardener will diagnose the problem, suggest remedies and share information about insects and seasonal garden concerns.

🌻 Go ahead—ask the person with the greener thumb. Rutgers Master Gardeners of Ocean County will answer questions about plants, pests, wildlife and other environmental concerns Wednesday, Sept. 9, from 2–4 p.m. at the Point Pleasant Borough Branch. Bring a sample of your garden problem for diagnosis.

📺 Heeeeere’s Johnny—and the stories behind the show. Historian and archivist Jimmy Scalia will revisit Johnny Carson’s 30-year reign as the King of Late Night Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 7 p.m. at the Upper Shores Branch, 112 Jersey City Ave., Lavallette. The free program looks back at Carson’s famous guests and memorable television moments. Cue the curtain, strike up the band—and no commercial break required.

🍴 The tourists are leaving—and your table is finally ready. September and October may be LBI’s sweet spot: many restaurants are still open, but the crowds and marathon waits have headed home. Try Wally’s in Surf City for award-winning chowder and all-day comfort food; Black Whale in Beach Haven for fresh seafood in a cozy neighborhood-bar setting; Raimondo’s in Ship Bottom for a special Italian dinner; or Kubel’s in Barnegat Light for scallops, crab pie and old-school island charm. Even better, reservations are generally easier once summer winds down. But always check current hours before making the trip!

🍔 Ship Bottom just grilled up some statewide bragging rights. Woodies Drive-In earned a place on New Jersey Monthly’s list of the best burgers in New Jersey. The cash-only LBI favorite—look for the blue Volkswagen bus out front—uses freshly chopped meat from local butcher Okie’s for its patty melts, pizza burgers and inventive creations such as the Mac Daddy Patty, topped with fried macaroni and cheese. Woodies also serves hot dogs, fried seafood and turkey, chicken, veggie and black-bean burger alternatives. Find it at 509 Long Beach Blvd., Ship Bottom—and remember, the ATM stop comes before the burger stop.

Ghost the Musical brings romance, suspense, humor and a supernatural mystery to Surflight Theatre, 201 Engleside Ave., Beach Haven, on Thursday, Sept. 3, at 2 p.m. Based on the hit 1990 movie, the show follows Sam as he remains on Earth after his death to protect Molly and uncover a conspiracy. 🏖️ Bingo is better with sand between your toes. Registration for Lacey Township’s Bingo on the Beach begins Thursday, Sept. 3, at 6 p.m. at Lake Barnegat Beach, with the first game starting at 6:30 p.m. Bring your lucky streak—and perhaps a beach chair. 🛍️ Handmade treasures are taking over Route 37. More than 60 outdoor booths and 30 indoor vendors will fill the Craft Fair at Fabricated For You, 1081 Route 37, Toms River, on Saturday, Sept. 5, from 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Shop jewelry, quilts, artwork, candles, beach décor, baked goods, bags, toys and plenty more. 🌮 Come hungry—and wear your dancing shoes. The Berkeley Township Food Truck & Music Festival rolls into Veterans Park, 489 Bill Zimmerman Jr. Way, Bayville, on Saturday, Sept. 5, from 11 a.m.–6 p.m. Expect 15 gourmet food trucks, live bands, an adult beverage garden, vendor shopping and children’s activities. Admission is $5, with children younger than 10 admitted free.

🎸 Labor Day is going out with a full stomach and a loud encore. The Lacey Elks Labor Day celebration runs Monday, Sept. 7, from 10 a.m.–9 p.m. at Lacey Elks Lodge No. 2518, 900 Beach Blvd., Forked River. The public is invited for food trucks, vendors and family fun, plus live music from Shut Up Gus from 11 a.m.–3 p.m. and The Polish Nannies from 4–8 p.m.

Here’s some welcome news for Northeast cruisers: Disney Cruise Line will return to New York City in fall 2027 for the first time since 2023. After completing its inaugural European season, the Disney Wish will arrive in New York in late September for seven special voyages ranging from four to seven nights.
Five of the New York sailings will visit Bermuda, including three with an extra day on the island. The Disney Wish will also offer an autumn voyage along the New England and Canadian coast, visiting Boston; Saint John, New Brunswick; and Halifax, Nova Scotia—a particularly colorful way to go leaf-peeping without unpacking at every stop.

From New York, the ship will reposition to San Juan, Puerto Rico, on a five-night cruise that stops in Bermuda. It will then sail a seven-night Southern Caribbean itinerary visiting Aruba, St. Maarten, Bonaire and Dominica before heading to Port Canaveral.

Early booking begins Aug. 31, 2026, for eligible Castaway Club members, with reservations opening to everyone on Sept. 8. See the complete Fall 2027 and Spring 2028 itineraries. No flight to Florida required? That may be the most magical part of all.

Holidays at the Disneyland Resort returns Nov. 13, 2026, through Jan. 6, 2027, with sparkling décor, seasonal treats and plenty of Disney-style cheer. This year brings the return of “World of Color—Season of Light,” new holiday outfits for Mickey and friends, and a new Santa stop at Mickey’s Toontown. Favorites including A Christmas Fantasy Parade, holiday fireworks, festive attraction makeovers and the multicultural Disney Festival of Holidays will also return. Disney’s new Lakeshore Lodge will open at Walt Disney World on July 1, 2027, bringing 967 nature-inspired rooms to the shores of Bay Lake, just a boat ride from Magic Kingdom. Accommodations will range from cozy studios to waterfront Lake Houses and three-bedroom villas, with designs inspired by Bambi, Encanto, Fantasia, Brother Bear and Pocahontas. Guests can also expect a lazy river, pools, waterfront dining and complimentary Disney transportation. Reservations open Oct. 6 for Disney Vacation Club members, Oct. 7 for annual passholders and Oct. 8 for everyone else.

⭐ Crime has never looked so well tailored. Theo James returns as aristocrat-turned-crime boss Eddie Horniman when The Gentlemen begins its second season Thursday, Sept. 3, on Netflix. His unexpected talent for the family’s illegal enterprise is becoming a dangerous obsession. Expect schemes, swagger and trouble in a very expensive suit.

🔎 Three amateur sleuths are back in everyone’s business. The Marlow Murder Club returns Sunday, Sept. 6, at 8 p.m. on PBS, with Judith, Suzie and Becks investigating another suspicious death in their deceptively peaceful English town. It’s a cozy mystery—with poison, plenty of suspects and absolutely no intention of minding one’s own business.

☎️ This is one phone call you won’t want to miss. Last Seen premieres Wednesday, Sept. 9, on Apple TV. Eleven years after his daughter vanished, a former detective working as a police dispatcher receives a distress call from a teenager—and becomes convinced the caller is his missing child. The six-part thriller opens with two episodes.
