Eight new trips designed for families in search of adventure
Intrepid's new Premium Family trips are the kind you'll reminisce about for years to come. The eight new trips across Borneo, Morocco, India, Costa Rica, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Thailand and Egypt put small groups of families in the hands of Intrepid's most experienced local guides — with feature stays, cultural immersion, and kid-focused activities woven throughout. Stay in an overwater villa in Borneo and plant coral with your kids. Spend a night at a desert camp in Morocco under live Gnaoua music. See the Taj Mahal at sunrise as a family. Intrepid handles all the logistics so you can stay present for the moments that matter, while travelling in small groups of three to five like-minded families.

🏖️ Accessible Beach Days Start Here
Planning a beach day should not require detective work, a spreadsheet and three phone calls. Ocean County is trying to make things easier.
The Ocean County Department of Human Services has released its Accessible Beach Guide, featuring information on local beaches with ramps, walkways, accessible parking, surf chair availability, beach fees, lifeguard hours and other amenities.
The guide is designed to help residents and visitors plan a smoother, more comfortable beach day — because everyone deserves sand, sun and ocean air without the “wait, can we get there?” stress.
Where to get it: Download or request the guide through Ocean County Government’s Request A Resource Guide page.
🎨 Ocean County seniors are putting their creativity on display.
The 2026 Annual Senior Citizen Art Show is now open at Ocean County College, giving local artists age 60 and older a well-deserved spotlight.
The exhibit features original work from Ocean County seniors in categories including painting, photography, sculpture, mixed media, crafts, watercolor, drawing and more. Both professional and non-professional artists are represented, which means this is less “formal gallery pressure” and more “look at all this talent hiding in plain sight.”
When: June 8–25
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
Closed: June 19
Where: Jay and Linda Grunin Performing Arts Academy, Ocean County College
First-place winners in each category will be eligible to advance to the New Jersey State Senior Citizens Annual Juried Art Contest & Exhibition.
📚 Beyond the Books
Ocean County Library has a little something for curious minds this week, whether you want to learn more about New Jersey’s Revolutionary War drama, hear from a bestselling fantasy author or get a practical nudge toward moving more. Libraries: still undefeated at being more than books.

Health experts from Hackensack Meridian Health will discuss the benefits of starting an exercise routine. And yes, we all know we “should” exercise, but this talk gets into the why: flexible joints, toned muscles, weight control, stress reduction, better mood, blood sugar and heart rate support, and even better sleep. Basically, movement is out here doing the most.
⚔️ New Jersey’s Revolutionary Rivalry: The Untold Story of Colonel Tye & Captain Huddy
When: Wednesday, June 10, at 7 p.m.

Local author and historian Rick Geffken will share the little-known story of Colonel Tye, a runaway slave who fought for the British, and his patriot foe, militia captain Joshua Huddy. Their conflict led to Huddy’s hanging in Highlands, an international incident, and a Revolutionary War episode with enough drama for a prestige miniseries. History class did not give us nearly enough of this. This program is made possible by a generous donation in honor of Martin C. Unfried, Jr.
When: Thursday, June 11, at 7 p.m.
Where: Virtual program presented by Ocean County Library
Registration: Required
Info/Register: Call 732-349-6200, or stop by your local OCL branch
Matt Dinniman, New York Times bestselling author of the Dungeon Crawler Carl series, will chat about his latest book, “A Parade of Horribles.” The series is known for chaos, dungeon mayhem and the kind of plot where “survive the world’s most twisted RPG” is apparently the calm version. Ocean County Library cardholders can borrow “A Parade of Horribles” for free. Visit your local OCL branch to request a copy.

🏛️ History Buffs
Ocean County Library is leaning into America’s 250th with programs for anyone who likes their history with drama, complicated characters and the occasional international incident. New Jersey may be small, but during the Revolution, it was very much in the middle of everything.
🇺🇸 New Jersey: Crossroads of the American Revolution
When: Thursday, June 11, 6–8 p.m.
Where: Toms River Branch, Bishop Room, upstairs
Info: 732-349-6200
As America marks its 250th anniversary, local historian Jim Segrave-Daly will lead a lively discussion about the pivotal role New Jersey — and Toms River — played in the Revolution.
With more than 90 military engagements in the state, plus the local Huddy Affair, New Jersey was not exactly sitting this one out. Strategically located between British-controlled New York and the Continental capital of Philadelphia, New Jersey was critical for support, supplies and intelligence. Translation: we were the Turnpike before there was a Turnpike.
✨ Try Something New

🍒 In the Kitchen: Cherry season showed up early.

Fresh Cherry Crisp recipe courtesy of Northwest Cherries
Fresh sweet cherries are arriving in stores earlier than usual this year, thanks to a mild winter and warm spring in the Northwest growing region. And because cherry season never lasts as long as we want it to, this is the time to enjoy them fresh, freeze a few for later, or turn them into something warm, sweet and very “just one more spoonful.”
This week’s recipe pick: Fresh Cherry Crisp — because if summer hands you cherries, the correct answer is dessert.
📺 TV Time: Mister Rogers just moved into the YouTube neighborhood.
Here’s a great TV pick if you’re babysitting the grandkids. For the first time, Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood has its own official YouTube channel, giving longtime fans — and a whole new generation of neighbors — an easy way to revisit Fred Rogers’ timeless lessons on kindness, curiosity, feelings and community.
The channel will feature full episodes, livestreams, clips, shorts, playlists and compilations from the beloved children’s series. It debuted with five full-length episodes, including the very first national episode from 1968, with one additional episode rolling out each week.
Basically, the internet got a cardigan and some emotional intelligence.
🚗 Day Trippin’: A South Jersey winery just found itself in the Declaration of Independence story.

Saddlehill Cellars in Voorhees
Saddlehill Cellars in Voorhees says new historical research has connected its 70-acre estate to the family of Timothy Matlack Jr., the New Jersey-born patriot who handwrote the official parchment copy of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.
To mark America’s 250th anniversary, Saddlehill Cellars will offer free public screenings of a new 15-minute documentary, “The Scribe, The Sword & The Shield: Three Revolutionary Lives. One Piece of Ground. A Story 250 Years in the Making.”
When: Saturday, July 4, 2026, 11 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

🎂 Birthday Cheers
Big birthday love to Sara L. of Manahawkin, who is turning 70 this week. Seventy! That is not just a birthday — that is a full-on “clear the table, bring out the good cake and let someone else do the dishes” kind of milestone.
Wishing Sara a week filled with good health, big laughs, sweet surprises and absolutely no one saying, “You don’t look 70,” because honestly, what is 70 supposed to look like anyway?
Sara is also sharing birthday week with a pretty solid celebrity lineup:
June 10: Singer Shirley Alston Reeves of The Shirelles is 85. Model-actor Elizabeth Hurley is 61.
June 11: Singer Joey Dee of Joey Dee and the Starliters is 86. Actor Roscoe Orman of Sesame Street is 82. Actor Adrienne Barbeau of Maude is 81. Singer Graham Russell of Air Supply is 76. Actor Peter Bergman of The Young and the Restless is 73. Actor Hugh Laurie of House is 67.
June 12: Sports announcer Marv Albert is 85.
So happy birthday, Sara — you’re in very good company, but we’re giving you top billing.
