🪁 The forecast calls for kites—lots of them: The Surf City International Kite Festival fills the LBI sky with giant show kites, sport-kite demonstrations and artistic creations. Look for workshops, displays, an indoor show and a glowing Night Fly. Friday through Sunday, Oct. 2–4, in Surf City.

🍽️ Three nights, no cooking: Seaside Heights Restaurant Weekend serves up specials at restaurants around town, including Klee’s, Hemingway’s Café, Chef Mike’s Legacy and The Ocean View. Friday through Sunday, Oct. 2–4, from 5 p.m. until closing.

🕯️ Pop hits by candlelight: Four Shore Strings performs music ranging from Elvis and the Beatles to Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift at the LBI Historical Museum Candlelight Concert. Sparkling wine and light fare are included. Friday, Oct. 2, 5:30–7 p.m. at 129 Engleside Ave., Beach Haven. Advance tickets required.

✨ The pumpkins come out after dark: Jacks & Lights features a glowing pumpkin trail, flashlight corn maze, pumpkin patch, Spook Easy and plenty of photo opportunities. Friday and Saturday, 6–10 p.m.; Thursday and Sunday, 6–9 p.m., through Nov. 1 at Argos Farm, Forked River.

🎸 He left his heart in Toms River: Guitarist and vocalist John Pizzarelli celebrates Tony Bennett with classics including “Because of You,” “Rags to Riches” and “I Left My Heart in San Francisco.” Friday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. at the Grunin Center for the Arts, Toms River.

🐦 Early birds, this one’s for you: Explore how the Cloverdale Park’s feathered population changes throughout the year during a naturalist-led Bird Walk. Be prepared to walk about a mile and bring binoculars if you have them. Saturday, Oct. 3, 8–9:30 a.m. at Cloverdale Farm County Park, Barnegat. Free.

🪑 Birding without the hike: Set up your chair near the feeders while a naturalist helps identify the visitors during Armchair Birding. 🌊 Your beachcombing finds could be prizeworthy: The LBI Sea Glass & Art Festival features sea-glass jewelry, coastal art, fossil talks and contests for sea glass, fossils and beach-found sculptures. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 3–4, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. at Things A Drift, 406 Long Beach Blvd., Ship Bottom. Free.

🚗 Cars, crafts and country-style fun: Eagleswood’s fall celebration includes a car show, crafters, live music, line dancing, food vendors, inflatables and pumpkin and cookie decorating. Saturday, Oct. 3, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. at the Eagleswood Township Municipal Building, West Creek. Rain date: Sunday, Oct. 4.

🥣 A weekend that’s souper by the shore: The Beach Haven Chowder Cook-Off begins with Saturday’s free Merchant’s Mart, followed by Sunday’s ticketed tasting featuring 12 local restaurants. Saturday, Oct. 3, 10 a.m.–5 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 4, 11 a.m.–4 p.m. at Taylor Avenue Waterfront, Beach Haven. Rain or shine.

🍷 Sip happens—especially in autumn: Laurita Winery’s Fall Festival pairs wine and vineyard views with live bands, food trucks, vendors and wagon tours. A complimentary shuttle will take guests to Dancer Farm for pumpkin picking. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 3–4 and Oct. 10–11 at Laurita Winery, New Egypt. Admission is $15 online or $20 at the door.

🚒 Sound the alarm for fall fun: Pine Beach Fire Fest brings food trucks, crafts, a beer and wine garden, a car show, fire-rescue demonstrations and music by the Drunken Clams. Saturday, Oct. 3, noon–7 p.m. at Vista Park, Pine Beach. Admission is free.

🍺 Raise a glass to local heroes: The Beach Haven Fire Company’s annual block party features bands, food, beer, wine, raffles and more, with proceeds benefiting the department. Saturday, Oct. 3, noon–9 p.m. on Amber Street outside the Beach Haven firehouse.

🔴 Pick your own “rubies of the Pines”: Learn how cranberries grow during a guided bog walk, then gather some to bring home at the Cranberry Ramble & Pick. 🇺🇸 Hear the soundtrack of a revolution: Musician Bobby Horton performs the stirring, humorous and popular songs that encouraged unity and independence during the American Revolution. The Ocean County Library is turning the page on October with music, history, fall fun, helpful resources—and one impressive new branch.

🎃 Give an old costume a second act: Have a gently used children’s costume hiding in the closet? Drop it off at the Toms River, Lakewood, Plumsted or Tuckerton branch by Wednesday, Sept. 30. The costumes will be given away during FanNation: The Geekstravaganza on Saturday, Oct. 3 at the Toms River Branch.

🧙 This history lesson comes with goosebumps: Archivist Mickey DiCamillo digs into original documents and interrogation transcripts from the 1692 Salem witch trials during When There Were Witches. ✂️ Here comes a brand-new chapter: The new 19,700-square-foot Stafford Branch Library opens with more books, public computers, study rooms, a maker space, sensory space and an intergenerational area where seniors can gather and socialize. 🎢 Theme parks are getting the five-star treatment: Beauty of Nature—better known as BON—begins its soft opening Oct. 24 at VidantaWorld Vallarta–Nuevo Nayarit in Mexico. Designed for children, parents and grandparents, the $1.5 billion luxury park blends thrill rides, immersive worlds, upscale dining, roomy gathering spaces and nightly entertainment. When completed, BON will have more than 20 attractions across seven themed worlds. Five areas will debut during the soft opening, along with rides that fly above the jungle, drop 40 meters and spin the whole family through an adventure. The resort also features LUDÕ, a resident Cirque du Soleil production with more than 40 international performers. BON is scheduled to open to the general public in April 2027.

🚢 All we want for Christmas is a balcony at sea: Princess Cruises is dressing up its ships for the holidays with sparkling trees, garlands, festive menus and enough seasonal cheer to make you forget about untangling the lights at home. Holiday activities vary by ship but may include tree-lighting celebrations, “snow” in the Piazza, festive sweater parties, candlelight concerts, gingerbread-house decorating, holiday movies and family pajama nights. Remaining 2026 options include sailings to the Mexican Riviera, Panama Canal, Eastern Caribbean and Hawaiian Islands between Thanksgiving and New Year’s. 🍂 How much fall can you fit into one weekend? Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley is daring visitors to find out. With peak foliage typically arriving in mid- to late October, the region offers scenic drives and historic covered bridges, pumpkin picking, wineries, farm distilleries and plenty of festivals celebrating the finer things in life—namely beer, garlic and bacon. Raise a stein at Oktoberfest at SteelStacks Oct. 2–4 and 9–11, sample boldly seasoned creations at the Easton Garlic Fest Oct. 3–4, or save room for the PA Bacon Fest Nov. 7–8. Come hungry—and maybe pack the stretchy pants.

🖼️ The art dealer has a past—and it’s catching up with her: Catherine Zeta-Jones stars in Kill Jackie as a former drug smuggler who has spent 20 years hiding in plain sight. Then she learns assassins are after her. The eight-episode thriller comes from creatives behind Killing Eve. Friday, Oct. 2, on AMC+.

🎃 This festival is shaping up to be a real glass act: Meet 150 talented artisans and browse handcrafted jewelry, pottery, paintings, home décor and more at the WheatonArts Festival of Fine Craft. Watch artists at work, try hands-on creative activities and enjoy live music, food trucks and the Beer and Wine Garden. And don’t miss the signature Glass Pumpkin Fundraiser—these pumpkins are guaranteed to survive well past Halloween. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 3–4 at WheatonArts in Millville.

👻 Cape May is dying to tell you a story: Spend October exploring the spirits of this historic seaside town during Cape May Halloween Happenings. The monthlong celebration includes ghost walks, haunted trolley tours, murder-mystery dinners and chilling stories from Cape Island’s past. For lighter fun, stroll the Physick Estate’s Scarecrow Alley and vote for your favorite creation. Oct. 1–31 throughout Cape May. Prices vary by event.
